we are all made of stars

A terribly sad few days here in the Lil household, as we said goodbye to Possum. My mom has had Possum and her brother Tigger for 10 years, half of that time they've lived with me, and as kittehs are part of the family, her death has hit us all hard. She had an embolism or heart attack (not sure which) and although she was clearly no longer "all there", she was not in pain, so we brought her home to spend her last hours in front of the log fire as we said mantras for her rebirth and laid her under a pillow case blessed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. As Buddhists, it's really really really a difficult decision to euthanaise and we were thankful she wasn't suffering and could just pass peacefully. It happened early Saturday morning and we're adjusting to a house with just three kittehs. Her brother has been calling for her, and wandering around a bit lost. She was tiny, and quiet, and not the most robust of kittehs, but she had the sweetest personality. We will all miss her.

Lil, I send my deepest sympthay at this time. I am so glad that you include her in your Spritiual beliefs. I know a little about Bhuddism so it's only logical you would include her because that's part of the religion. You know animals having souls? I am Christian, but I have fought long and hard to have animals recongized. When my dog died several years ago, the deacon from my church came and did a prayer service for him. I believe that animals don't need funerals as they don't have the stain of orginial sin. I believe that animals ALWAYS go to heaven. However, I think it must comfort you to know that her Spirit lives on. She sounds like a very good kitty and I know in your religion that she will be reborn in to a higher level of being. Animals are just so Spirit - filled. They're just like a little child that never grows up. I get off my soap box now. I just wanted to say you sitting by the fire with her made me cry. Thanks for sharing your hurt with us.
